**US Table Tennis Hall of Fame Announces Class of 2024 Inductees**

Portland, Oregon – March 3, 2024 – The US Table Tennis Hall of Fame proudly unveils the esteemed inductees for the Class of 2024. The induction ceremony on Oct. 10, 2024, will coincide with the 18th Si and Patty Wasserman Jr. & Open Championship on Oct. 11-13, both hosted at the famed Houston International Table Tennis Academy (HITTA) in Katy, Texas.

The Class of 2024 commemorates four remarkable individuals who have left an indelible mark on the sport of table tennis:

**Athlete Inductee: Glenn Cowen – Renowned for his exceptional skill on the table and his significant contributions off it, Cowen was a true table tennis diplomat. Despite his passing in 2004, Cowen’s legacy remains etched in the annals of table tennis history. As a US Junior Champion and a member of the 1971 US Team to the World Championships, Cowen’s prowess transcended borders. His efforts in fostering international cooperation, particularly through 1971’s Ping-Pong Diplomacy in China, have advanced the sport’s reach and promoted camaraderie on a global scale. In addition to his on-court achievements, Cowen’s commitment to promoting table tennis as a vehicle for diplomacy and cultural exchange has left an enduring legacy. Cowen’s promotion of friendship and cooperation through Ping-Pong Diplomacy continues to inspire athletes and enthusiasts around the world.

**Contributor Inductee: Stellan Bengtsson** – Originating from Sweden, Stellan Bengtsson solidified his position in table tennis history with his triumph in Men’s Singles at the 1971 World Table Tennis Championships. Transitioning seamlessly from player to coach, Bengtsson has become an eminent figure in the sport. His dedication to mentoring players, including members of the US Para Table Tennis Team, has significantly contributed to the sport’s global development. Bengtsson’s influence extends beyond his championship victories; his innovative coaching methods and steadfast support have empowered incalculable individuals to realize their full potential in the sport. Notably, Bengtsson’s commitment to advancing US table tennis is exemplified by his hospitality, as he graciously opened his home to a future two-time US Olympian Jimmy Butler, providing invaluable guidance and support. His coaching has positively impacted countless US National Team members and everyday tournament players, leaving an enduring legacy of excellence both on and off the table.

Serving as the USATT General Counsel for 18 years and holding various leadership roles within the organization, Taylor’s commitment to advancing the sport has been unwavering. Dennis Taylor’s leadership and vision have been instrumental in shaping the landscape of table tennis in the United States. His strategic guidance and legal expertise have steered the sport through periods of growth and transformation, laying the foundation for continued success. Taylor’s dedication to serving the table tennis community, both on and off the court, exemplifies the spirit of sportsmanship and integrity that defines the sport.

Patty Martinez-Wasserman

**Mark Matthews Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient: Patty Martinez-Wasserman** – Patty Martinez-Wasserman is a celebrated figure in the world of table tennis, known for her exceptional skill, tenacity, and contributions to the sport. With multiple national titles to her name, including three US Open Women’s Singles titles, her impact on the table tennis community extends far beyond her achievements as a player. As a coach, mentor, and advocate for the sport’s growth, Wasserman embodies the values of discipline, sportsmanship, and camaraderie. Martinez-Wasserman’s influence on the sport of table tennis transcends her remarkable achievements as a player. As a coach and mentor, Wasserman has dedicated herself to nurturing the talents of future generations, instilling in them the same passion and dedication that has defined her career. Her commitment to using table tennis as a tool for positive change has touched the lives of countless individuals, leaving an indelible mark on the sport and its community. Patty’s legacy as a player, coach, and philanthropist for the sport will continue to inspire and uplift the table tennis community for generations to come.
