Inductions

  • Glenn Cowan by Derek May – A posthumous induction honored Glenn Cowan, a key figure in Ping Pong Diplomacy, which played a crucial role in easing US-China relations during the early 1970s. Cowan’s story of accidentally boarding a Chinese team bus and befriending world-class players became an iconic moment in international diplomacy and table tennis history.
  • Dennis Taylor by Larry Hodges – For nearly two decades, Dennis Taylor served as General Counsel for USA Table Tennis, ensuring the sport’s legal and governance framework remained strong. His dedication to the administrative side of the sport has had a profound and lasting influence on the table tennis community.
  • Stellan Bengtsson by Christian Lillieroos – A legendary player and coach, Stellan Bengtsson was recognized for his World Championship title in 1971, where he became the youngest men’s singles world champion at just 18 years old. Bengtsson’s contributions as a coach have shaped generations of players in Sweden, Denmark, Qatar, and the US Paralympic Table Tennis Team.

The Mark Matthews Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Patty Martinez-Wasserman by Scott Gordan – A true icon of the sport, Patty Martinez Wasserman was celebrated for her record-breaking achievements in US table tennis. She delivered an inspiring speech about her journey, from learning on a plywood table to becoming a national champion at age 13. She also continues the legacy of her late husband, Cy Wasserman, through her work in supporting young players in their development.
